And from Wikitravel:

Located a mere 1.5 degrees north of the Equator, the weather is usually sunny with no distinct seasons. Rain falls almost daily throughout the year, usually in sudden, heavy showers that rarely last longer than an hour.

The high temperature and humidity, combined with the lack of wind and the fact that temperatures stay high during the night, can take its toll on visitors from colder parts of the world. Bear in mind that spending more than about one hour outdoors can be very exhausting, especially if combined with moderate exercise. Singaporeans themselves shun the heat, and for a good reason. Many live in air-conditioned flats, work in air-conditioned offices, take the air-conditioned metro to air-conditioned shopping malls connected to each other by underground tunnels where they shop, eat, and exercise in air-conditioned fitness clubs. Follow their example if you want to avoid discomfort.

WHAT THE WHAT?! I’m going to melt over there.

Help Keep Me Entertained

March 16th, 2009

Yep, it’s official, I’m going to Singapore. Please help me maintain my sanity by providing suggestions of ways to entertain myself during the long flights. I plan on bringing an assortment of books, DS games, and my iPod. I’ve also decided that I want a Netbook for my birthday (this one) that I can load up with movies – some of the flights will have power ports so battery life won’t be an issue. A few people at work have suggested sleeping pills, but I’m a light sleeper and I’m afraid I’m going to end up groggy, awake, and grumpy that I’m groggy and awake instead of actually getting any sleep.

Economy classHere’s what I’m up against:

Leave on Friday, March 27 from Louisville, KY

Louisville, KY to Detroit, MI (1 hour 28 min)

* 2 hour layover *

Detroit, MI to Tokyo, Japan (13 hours 25 min)

* 1 hour layover *

Tokyo to Singapore (7 hour 50 min)

Arrive in Singapore Sunday, March 29 at 1:50am local time (Saturday 1:50pm Cincinnati time)

Week 17: Hills and Pancakes

March 15th, 2009

Why did we choose to live in a city with so many hills? The Lebanon bike trail pretty much destroyed me today. I completed a new long distance of 6.1 miles, short of my seven mile goal but I think if you factor in the monster hills it all works out.

I then celebrated with a giant stack of pancakes drowned in butter pecan syrup from IHOP and followed that up with a nap. All in all, a good day.

My NikePlus grand totals are: 31 workouts and 83.34 miles. I’ll hit the century mark sometime next week!

Week 16: On The Disabled List

March 7th, 2009

I’ve been sidelined by whatever flu/cold/fever thing that’s been floating around the office and I haven’t run all week. I have no idea what this is going to do to my run schedule but I hope this doesn’t put me too far behind – I’m supposed to run seven miles next week! After a lot of rest and cold medicine I’m starting to feel like I’m on the mend, but I’m still pretty weak; I need a nap after walking up a flight of stairs. I should have taken some HiberNol.

Week 15: Six Miles

Nothing interesting to note this week, but I wanted to keep up the weekly posting rate, so here it is. I completed a new longest run of six miles on Saturday. I felt a lot better on this run than last week’s five miles which I thought might kill me – my pace was over one minute faster.

Next week’s long run will be six miles (again).
